#WorldWideNews – From the Iberian Peninsula to the Middle East

Many domestic competitions come to an end in the month of May. In Italy, for exampe, the playoff semifinals are about to kick-off. In other countries, like Qatar or in Eastern Europe, the champions were already crowned. Furthermore, trophies were awarded in Portugal and, above all, in Asia. Here are the news from the past week in the futsal world.

The girls from Iran are the Asian champions

Iran proved again to be the dominating country in Asia by also winning the AFC Women’s Futsal Championship. The final podium turned out to be the same as the first edition of the competition, in 2015. Iran won 5-2 the final against Japan. Thailand, the host team, reached the third place with a victory against Vietnam in the consolation game. The winner was determined in the penalty shootout (3-2) after 50 goalless minutes.

Dualism over in Qatar

From Steve Harris’ Facebook group, Futsal Japan, came the news of Al Sailiya as new champion of the Qatar Futsal League. For the first time in the history of the league (12 editions), the final winner is a team that is not Al-Rayyan (6 tiles) or Al-Sadd (5).
